The certified pharmacy technician is responsible for procurement, inventory management, and covering all pharmacy technical duties at the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Nursing Home on an as needed basis. The pharmacy technician will be responsible for all prescription and non-prescription medications, supply purchasing, inventory control, prescription profile management, nursing home billing, procurement and controlled substance management. Ensures compliance with established purchasing and inventory procedures and maintains effective internal control over the physical product flow and accounting of assigned pharmacy inventory. Initiates procurement requests/purchase orders for all medications, medical and surgical supplies and other specialized medical devices handled by pharmacy, which are either stocked or special ordered via one of the following: Prime Vendor McKesson Connect, Government Purchase Card, VISTA request, or credit card. Maintains accurate records of purchases, and monitors utilization rates for all medications and prosthetic devices. Manages allocated funds to minimize waste and promote most efficient use of resources. Regularly reports irregularities, inconsistencies, and issues related to procurement to the appropriate source for resolution. Works closely with appropriate staff (administrators, information technologists, supervisors, pharmacists, procurement technicians, etc.) to resolve issues relating to Drug Accountability. Determines, establishes and modifies, as necessary appropriate stock levels based on usage. Manages unused and/or expired pharmaceuticals through reverse distribution Utilizes basic accounting and budgetary skills to assure pharmaceuticals and supplies are maintained in the cost-effective manner.
