The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center, Jackson, MS is seeking a full-time Physician (Associate Chief of Staff - Education). This is an open-continuous announcement and will remain open until September 30, 2022, or until the position is filled (if a selection is made and offer accepted, announcement will be closed). Qualified applicants will be referred to the selecting official every two weeks from the opening date of the announcement. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification OR the ability to attain such prior to entering on duty. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on board certification. Please Note: A copy of the current certification must be submitted prior to entering on duty. Additional Requirement: ~ Board-certified in American Board of Specialty. Preferences: ~ Three to five years of professional supervisory experience. ~ Advanced skills to provide a full range of evaluations to determine the type of degree of illnesses within the specialty scope. ~ Three to five years of experience supervising residents/resident clinics. ~ Working knowledge of Education Service budgetary requirements, fiscal planning, workload projections, and productivity measures. ~ Working knowledge of regulations and preparation for accreditation surveys, e.g., The Joint Commission, Office of Inspector General (OIG), Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). ~ Advanced skill in providing leadership and accountability of all aspects of the service in support of the mission and values of the health care system. Major Duties/Responsibilities\n~ Oversight responsibility for Education Service, to include budget and fiscal management, human resource management, strategic planning, and program development, assuring that the clinical and administrative functions are integrated in order to provide optimum utilization of the available resources. ~ Provide direct patient care in area of specialty.\n~ Responsible for the overall medical care of patients with conditions requiring treatment in area of specialty, to include consultative, prescriptive, and ordering authority in the outpatient or inpatient settings. ~ Ensure the quality and timeliness of the services provided, and collaborate with referring providers as needed. ~ Ensure compliance with standards of accrediting bodies, such as The Joint Commission (TJC), Accreditation Counsel of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the Inspector General's Combined Assessment Program (CAP). ~ Collaborate with other Service Chiefs, Section Chiefs, Directors and Program Managers, in fulfilling their responsibilities.\n~ Oversee and manage all Health Professional Trainees (HPTs), training programs, and affiliations at the VA medical facility.\n~ Promote and ensure equity in the VA medical facility's relationship with all educational affiliates.\n~ Coordinate with the affiliate DIO, sponsoring institution (academic affiliate) Program Directors and VA Site Directors to ensure that program accreditation requirements are met and that all VHA educational policies and procedures are followed.\n~ Coordinate with the VA medical facility Sponsoring Institution Program Director and applicable VA Service Chief to ensure that program accreditation requirements are met and that all VHA educational policies and procedures are followed.\n~ Collaborate with the VA medical facility Associate Director for Patient Care Services (ADPCS) and other associated health leadership to ensure patient care services such as nursing and other associated health services support the VA medical facility's educational mission and HPTs, and that training programs of all disciplines are supported.\n~ Other duties as assigned.
