Job summary:
Provide routine nursing care in accordance with our established polices and procedures, and as may be directed by the unit charge nurse, director of nursing or Director of Staff Development to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times.
Essential duties and responsibilities: Include the following; other duties may be assigned.
Receive assignments and checks patient schedule. Reports on and off duty.
Perform all assigned duties in accordance with our established policies and procedures, nursing care procedures, and our safety rules and regulations.
Verify the identification of a patient before administering treatment, serving food, etc., to assure that appropriate treatment, etc., is being provided to the correct patient.
Assist patients with dental and mouth care.
Assist in preparing patients for meals, taking to/from dining room, serving trays, placing clothes protector, assisting in feeding or cutting foods, assist patients in identifying food arrangements, i.e. informing blind patients of where food is located on the tray, assures that patient’s food is accessible and self-help devices are available, records patient’s food intake as directed, performs after meal care as required.
Serve extra nourishment in accordance with established nursing care procedures.
Serve drinking water as required. Assures that water pitchers are cleaned and filled with fresh drinking water daily.
Bathe patients as assigned and in accordance with our established nursing care procedures. (Encourage showers and other self-help measures/activities.)
Keep blankets on bed to assure that patients are warm at all times, watches for and reports any change in room temperature, ventilation, lighting, etc., and keeps patients’ personal articles off the floor and properly stored.
Report any medication found in the patient’s room and takes found medication to the charge nurse as directed.
Keep supply room and work areas clean at all times. Washes hands after caring for each patient.
Follow infection control procedures, as established by this facility, when isolation techniques are necessary.
Report all accident/incident, regardless of how minor, and all hazardous conditions and equipment to the charge nurse immediately.
Attend and participates in -service educational programs, on-the-job training programs, etc., as directed.
Ensure that patient’s rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage a complaint, are well established and maintained at all times.
Maintain Confidentiality of all pertinent patient care information to assure patient rights are protected.
Qualifications (Education and/or Experience):
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must possess certification to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant. One-year experience as a CNA desirable. Must have a valid and current CPR Certificate.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to read, write, speak in an understandable manner, and understand the English language and carry out oral and written instructions.
Must be able to use a computer for documentation purposes and to communicate with other staff members.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully and work harmoniously with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
Must possess the ability to maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment and maintain the appearance of nursing areas, regular inspection of nursing units for sanitation, safety and proper performance of assigned duties.
Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and see. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision. The employee must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. The employee must be able to lift up to 200 lbs. with assistance.
Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability to be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress relating to and working with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times, hostile people within the facility.
