The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reports to the President & CEO and interacts heavily with the CEO, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, Audit Committee and Executive Leadership Team. The CFO has broad responsibility across LeadingAge California for operational, financial and accounting systems, directing functions such as: accounting, annual audits, internal customer accounting support, 990 compliance, monthly close processes, monthly reporting, forecasting, budgeting, long range planning, return on investment analysis and other value-added financial analyses. Direct reports include all transactional activities, in including the Controller and other finance department, membership, and CMP grants. Staff supervision. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires an individual able to support both high-level complex accounting and finance responsibilities as well as department details on a day-to-day basis.

Employee Supervision a. Provides direct supervision of the accounting, membership and CMP grant staff b. Responsible for orientation and training of new department employees c. Evaluates and conducts regular performance reviews d. Communicates management’s position, company information and work changes to assigned employees e. Responsible for the level of productivity in the department f. Ensures department staff complies with all company policies and practices
LeadingAge California Management a. Attends all Executive Leadership Team Meetings b. Attends and participates in quarterly Board of Director and Committee meetings c. Serves as liaison to the Finance and Audit Committees
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: • Superior analytical, problem solving, judgement, oral and written communication, leadership, and management skills • Superior verbal and written communication skills, and ability to present the organization to diverse constituents • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and consensus, manage a team of professional staff, and execute on budget • Knowledge of auditing rules, complex grants management, and non-profit accounting.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor’s degree required; CPA and Master’s degree preferred • Minimum of 10-years of progressive responsible supervisory, administrative and management experience in financial management and at least 5 years of consecutive experience as a finance executive • Experience with Microsoft 365, Great Plains Dynamics, completion of forms 990, 5500, 1099, and other compliance forms, including required tax and audit preparation • Preferred minimum experience in association financial management, non-profit management and accounting, association management software, and knowledge of senior living and care
