Dedicated to The Care of Elders:
PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) was developed to answer the many problems around caring for frail seniors. The PACE model is centered on the belief that it is better for the well-being of seniors with chronic care needs and their families to be served in their community whenever possible.
Seniors, their family members, and caregivers face many issues, including transportation to appointments, management of medications, coordination of medical care from different specialists, lack of social interaction, and ability to stay alone at home. On Lok PACE participants receive in home care services and transportation to a On Lok PACE center for primary medical care, social and recreational activities, and other senior care services.
We understand the importance of a system that works together. Your expertise, drive and passion can help us carry out our mission to improve lives and advance healthcare.

Company History
Our History
In 1971, traditional models of healthcare did not meet the needs of the elderly in San Francisco’s
Chinatown and North Beach neighborhoods, putting them at risk of premature institutionalization.
Community leader Dr. William L. Gee and social worker Marie-Louise Ansak envisioned a system
of healthcare and supportive services to keep these frail seniors in their homes, focusing on
individuals with language, cultural, and financial barriers to adequate care. Together with
community leaders, our founders set out to realize their vision.
Working out of a one-room office, Dr. Gee and Ms. Ansak formed On Lok Senior Health Services,
one of the first adult day health care programs in the country, which became the foundation of
PACE, their revolutionary Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly. On Lok leadership worked
hard to obtain permanent funding, traveled to Washington, D. C. to meet with key legislators, and
forged lasting partnerships with community stakeholders.
From its humble start as an adult day health center, PACE evolved into a nationally recognized,
Medicare and Medicaid-funded model of long-term care and supportive services, administered by
a multidisciplinary team in a way that is both culturally appropriate and tailored to the needs of
each participant. Today, PACE operates in 31 states through more than 130 PACE programs.
Over the years, On Lok has continued to deliver PACE’s time-tested model of care to more
seniors, supported the national expansion of PACE, and advocated for policies that improve
quality of life and quality of care for older adults.
While leading with PACE, On Lok has never stopped thinking about innovations to support and
respond to the way we age. In 1995, the 30th Street Senior Center, San Francisco’s largest
multipurpose senior center, joined the On Lok family of services, providing the foundation for new
programs for active seniors.
Today, we are still pioneering services that support the physical, mental, and social health of both
active and frail seniors in a way that is both highly personal and deeply connected to the
community.
